Detailed usage guide
Use this calculator to compare DTF gang sheet sizes before ordering, quoting, or building a supplier-ready layout. The estimate is based on final transfer dimensions, quantity, selected sheet candidates, spacing, edge margin, rotation allowance, sheet pricing, and shipping.
- Add one row per transfer design. Enter the final printed width, final printed height, and total quantity needed.
- Turn on Upload a thumbnail for each design only when a local image helps you recognize a design. Thumbnails are optional and do not change the math.
- Choose common sheets, long roll estimates, small formats, or your own supplier sizes in Sheet candidates.
- Set the pricing basis that matches your supplier quote. It tells the calculator whether the Price field is one sheet price, a square-inch rate, or a linear-foot rate.
- Review Result indicators first, then compare total cost, cost each, usage, waste, and the planning preview.
- Use exports only as planning guides for discussion or quoting. Build the final production file in your supplier's builder or design software.
How the estimate works
The calculator treats each transfer as a rectangle, applies edge margin and gap, then packs repeated transfers into each sheet candidate using a deterministic planning heuristic. It reports how many sheets are needed, total cost, Cost each, utilization, and waste.
Spacing and margins
Gap is the space between transfers. Edge margin is the reserved area between the sheet edge and the first placement. Supplier requirements vary, so use conservative values when you do not yet know the final vendor rule.
Calculator vs builder
This calculator helps choose a sheet target before you open a vendor builder. It does not inspect artwork pixels, create a production DTF file, add registration marks, or replace the supplier upload preview.
FAQ preview
- How is Cost each calculated? The calculator adds the selected sheet cost for every required sheet and shipping, then divides that total by the number of requested transfers.
- Why can two layouts with similar usage have different costs? Supplier prices, pricing basis, sheet count, and shipping can differ even when the occupied area looks similar. Compare total cost and Cost each alongside usage.
- Should I enable Auto rotate to fit? Enable it only when the artwork can be printed in either orientation. Rotation can improve fit, but it should not override a required reading or grain direction.
- What happens when the estimate needs more than 100 sheets? The total sheet count remains complete, while the browser preview and exports retain the first 99 sheets and the actual last sheet to stay responsive.
- Do thumbnail uploads change the layout? No. They stay in the browser as visual labels; width, height, quantity, gap, margin, and rotation determine placement.
- Can I send the exported file directly to a DTF printer? No. PDF, PNG, and SVG downloads are planning guides without customer artwork, RIP settings, or vendor-native production data.
